And Now For Something Completely Different

A drawing I did in Gimp in the style of The Legend of Zelda: The Wind Waker, not that I'm going to stop writing music or anything, I just haven't written anything new lately and I felt I should post something.

String Quartets

I've recently been getting into string quartets, I love the brilliant sound that can come from such a small ensemble. I also happen to be writing one in B minor.

Here are a couple great one's I've found.

String Quartet in E minor - 1st Movement (Giuseppe Verdi)

String Quartet in E minor - 1st Movement (Felix Mendelssohn)

Lots of feeling in these two pieces. Really great work.

Computer Problems - Solved?

EDIT: All problems were suddenly, strangely, and mysteriously fixed... I think my computer may have been playing a prank on me...

---

My computer is...troubled. It doesn't want to start up past the first screen. I may take it into Best Buy later and use their amazing Geek Squad service that's fast, affordable, and obviously endorsed.

Thankfully, I am extremely paranoid.

I was sure to send my latest w.i.p. to my email a couple days ago fearing such a thing might happen. And now that it has, the file is stored EVERYWHERE and ANYWHERE I can find. It's not going to get lost.

Everything else is backed up on my Sanyo Incognito (also endorsed) which accepts microSD cards. So yeah, this isn't too horribly disastrous, I mean, I managed to blog about it, right?

How To Train Your Dragon

Easily one of the greatest film soundtracks of all time and an exceptional movie. (If you haven't seen it, do it as soon as possible.)

I just downloaded the soundtrack from iTunes for $10. If you haven't heard the soundtrack yet, check these out.

This is Berk
Forbidden Friendship
Test Drive

Brilliant work by composer John Powell. He was nominated for this year's Oscars for Best Original Score. He better win...

Ondine's Curse

Ever heard Ondine's Curse (or Undine's Curse or congenital central hypoventilation syndrome or CCHS, or primary alveolar hypoventilation)?

Apparently it's a disorder that whenever the afflicted falls asleep, they can't breath and die. The name stems from a German myth. I'm too lazy to type it up, so here's a quote from the Wikipedia article.

---

In a German tale known as Sleep of Ondine, Ondine is a water nymph. She was very beautiful and, like all nymphs, immortal. However, should she fall in love with a mortal man and bear his child, she would lose her immortality.
Ondine eventually falls in love with a handsome knight, Sir Lawrence, and they are married. When they exchange vows, Lawrence vows to forever love and be faithful to her. A year after theirmarriage, Ondine gives birth to his child. From that moment on she begins to age. As Ondine’s physical attractiveness diminishes, Lawrence loses interest in his wife.
One afternoon, Ondine is walking near the stables when she hears the familiar snoring of her husband. When she enters the stable, she sees Lawrence lying in the arms of another woman. Ondine points her finger at him, which he feels as if kicked, waking him up with surprise. Ondine curses him, stating, "You swore faithfulness to me with every waking breath, and I accepted your oath. So be it. As long as you are awake, you shall have your breath, but should you ever fall asleep, then that breath will be taken from you and you will die!"

That's amazing and horrifying at the same time.

Ke$ha = Justin Bieber = Frederic Chopin?!?!

This will blow your mind.

Ke$ha, that dog whistle Justin Bieber, and Frederic Chopin all share a birthday: March 1st.

I don't know if I want to celebrate or tear my hair and parts of my forehead off.

Also, that's the day after my birthday. Think of that what you will.
